Brisighella Tour

Just 13 km away from Faenza, Brisighella is an ancient medieval and spa village in the Lamone Valley, in the Tuscan Apennine, between Firenze and Ravenna. It is perched on three rocky spurs, on which the Manfredi fortress (14th cent.), the Sanctuary of Monticino (18th century) and the Clock Tower (19th cent.) stand.

We’ll walk in the village until reaching the famous Via degli Asini (Donkeys' Street), probably built in the 14th century with a defensive function. Later on, it was used by carters who transported chalk from the quarries above the village using carts pulled by donkeys (this would explain the name of the street). Then, we’ll get into Collegiata di San Michele Arcangelo, a church completed in 1697, featuring a magnificent painting by Marco Palmezzano from Forlì (16th cent.), depicting the Adoration of the Three Wise Men.

Finally, we’ll visit Pieve del Tho, the oldest religious building of the Valley, about 1 km from Brisighella. Its origins date back to Galla Placidia, daughter of Emperor Theodosius, who had it built on the ruins of temple dedicated to Jupiter. It is an evocative single-nave temple in Romanesque style with frescoes dating back to the 14th century.
